Roses For Maya

This painting of Maya Angelou is part of a series inspired by The Rose That Grew from Concrete. In it, I juxtapose stone-like tones with blooming roses to symbolize resilience emerging from hardship. This piece pays homage to Dr. Angelou’s extraordinary strength and transformation. After learning about the trauma she endured during her childhood, I was deeply moved by how she blossomed into one of the most empathetic, wise, and powerful literary voices of our time.
